  • These are actually peaks of submerged mountains.
  • The highest peak of Andaman Nicobar is Saddle peak.
  • There are two dormant volcanoes in the Narcondam Island and one active volcano in the Barren Island.
  • Lakshadweep, located in the Arabian sea, is an example of Coral Island.

Climate of India

  • One word that can aptly describe the Indian Climate is ‘Monsoon’.
  • India has tropical monsoon type of climate.
  • It is greatly influenced by the presence of the Himalayas in the north as it blocks the cold air mass from central Asia.
  • It is because of them only that the monsoon has a watershed in India.
  • The Indian Ocean situated in south also influence the Indian Climate.

  4. Autumn (16sep to 14Dec)
  • The rain fall in winter season is called the Jet Stream in Northern India.
  • Vastness of the country and a variety of relief features are responsible for regional variations in the climate of India.
  • The interior of the country especially in the north has a continental type of climate.
  • The coastal areas have a more equable climate.
  • In Mountainous areas, altitude determines the climate.
